Hair Clips -- October 5, 2006

With lot of long haired gals in our home, finding good hair clips is a necessity! I only purchase the ones that say on the back of the hair clip "Made in France" as the cheap ones break easily and also tear your hair. I have been having a harder time finding them in our local stores. I went on line a few weeks back and did some searching and found some lovely, pewter hand made hair clips that use the clips that are "Made in France". Lytha Studios carries lots of different styles and sizes. Check it out! I ordered the Pewter Celtic Braid Bar Clip and was thrilled with what I received, though it is made for thick hair. It is a real work of art and a pretty clip to wear in your long hair!

Tool Caddy -- July 02, 2006

I have collected several dishwasher silverware trays and have found a great use for them. I use them as tool caddies on the garage work bench. I separate the tools according to type into the various sections. These "caddies" are easy to hose down to clean and are virtually indestructible. If you live near a salvage yard where they discard old appliances, you could pick up a few trays there.

Hair Clippers -- June 23, 2006

My old electric hair clipper for cutting the boy's hair was wearing out. It was pinching the skin and pulling the hair. Gerald said it was time for a new clipper. On my monthly shopping trip to Champaign I stopped at a beauty store called Sally's Beauty Supply. After looking around at Sally's, I asked the sales girl what she would recommend. She was very helpful. She showed me the "Peanut Professional" by Wahl, model 8655-785. She said it was the only one she used and that she had had good success with it for years. The listed price was $49.99 --- gasp! It had recently been on sale, and she kindly gave me the sale price. I got another discount by using their store card.

I used my new clipper for the first time this afternoon. What a wonderful little clipper! It is so much lighter than the old one and much easier to maneouver. It makes cutting hair a much more pleasant experience for all involved. It has a clever, little finger ring that makes it very versatile and easy to use. It could use some longer cutting guides. It comes with four cutting guides from 1/8" to 1/2". I plan to look into purchasing some larger cutting guides next time I go to Champaign.

It paid for itself with just one afternoon of haircuts, and even more exciting it gave me the inspiration for this new page on my website!
